Duncan Ramos ¶
Description ¶
Duncan is a tall man with an athletic build, shoulder length blonde hair, sapphire eyes, and large nose. While in his early 40s, he appears to be a decade younger than he actuially is. Duncan dresses like he is from high society, but often downplays his actual affluence.
Backstory ¶
Duncan was born as the second son into the House of Ramos – minor nobility and relatively new in the Empire. Their wealth originally coming from owning a small fleet of trading ships operating on The Midland Sea. Most of his early life was spent in High Society in Axis and other cities within the Empire’s influence. His only childhood experiences of the country were on noble estates when galas were being thrown or his father was making deals with the affluent. Duncan never had the chance to lay down any roots in one place. He had to learn to make friends quickly and learn how to leave them behind just as quickly, sometime to never to be seen again, or if he was lucky a near half decade later.
Duncan had a classical education. He learned history, politics, swordsmanship, merchant-craft, and musicianship. As the second son, Duncan learned from an early age that he would inherit little from his family. His elder brother Hector made sure of that. Despite their age gap of six years, Duncan and Hector had a fierce rivalry. Hector won most of these contests, except for one. Music. Duncan would often outperform his elder brother, which led to duels and bruises.
His excellence as a musician culminated in his sponsorship by his tutors to various musical institutions across the empire, many of which were cathedrals. At the Cathedral of the Purifying Light, Duncan attracted the interest of the Abbot, a gnome by the name of Silas Sherington. Duncan and Silas would have long conversations, often becoming theological lectures. Silas became Duncan’s first true friend and mentor. Music was always apart of Duncan’s life, but it never fulfilled him.
When Duncan came of age he was enrolled into the Imperial University, following his brother’s footsteps. He continued his musical education there in the College of Harmonics. While at University Duncan was scouted by one of the Deans to transfer to the College of Statecraft. When Duncan finally relented and attended his first semester there, he would soon become recruited into the Idolic School – the Empire’s premier institution for spycraft. Duncan was at first hesitant, but soon found his calling. Duncan graduated with honors and was inducted into the Conservatory – The Emperor’s spy network.
For more than two decades Duncan has worked as a spy for the Empire. Assassinating targets before they became threats and making assets in every city he visited as part of his own network. Officially he is a court musician sponsored by the emperor’s family. Unofficially he has the code name Brass Horn.
